Yet, even with Green Bay in desperate need of consistency at running back, analyst Dan Patrick doesn't think Jacobs will ever take the field for the Packers again. "I don’t think they have Josh Jacobs play for them ever again,” Patrick said on his morning radio show Friday. "The judge ruled you can show the video of him with the domestic violence case." There's been reporting that video from the incident — tied to domestic-related misdemeanor charges — could now be used, and if that happens, things could get significantly worse for Jacobs. The league's investigation into the matter remains ongoing, and he can still be suspended at any point this season. Jacobs, a three-time Pro Bowler, led the league with 1,653 rushing yards in 2022 before joining the Packers two years later on a four-year, $48 million contract.
He's currently just two years into that deal, but if he's cut after the 2026 season, his dead-cap hit drops from $17 million to just $3.125 million. If he can't get back on the field at all this season and the team continues to lose games, what would stop the Packers from taking that hit and starting fresh? And if that happens, it could be difficult for another franchise to take a chance on a soon-to-be 29-year-old back whose efficiency has dropped off in recent years and who is now in the middle of a serious legal situation.
