Travis Hunter Takes Defensive-Heavy Workload at Practice

Travis Hunter has played both offensive and defensive snaps throughout training camp with the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Travis Hunter, a combo wide receiver/cornerback, has played both offensive and defensive snaps throughout training camp with the Jacksonville Jaguars so far. But on Monday, Hunter didn't take a single snap on offense. The 2025 No. 2 overall pick played 20 snaps on defense and one on special teams, according to Michael DiRocco of ESPN.

His lack of offensive snaps was by design as the Jaguars prepare him for the 2026 NFL season. "It was definitely beneficial. I needed to knock the rust off," Hunter said after practice.

"I've got to get better somehow, somewhere. I definitely took my time to hone in on one today and that was defense. Get better, get my feet up under me.

Can't let anybody catch the ball, so that's my motto right now, just continue to focus and get better." Hunter's rookie campaign came to an end just seven games into the season after he suffered a torn LCL in practice. Before this injury, he'd reeled in 28 catches for 298 yards and one touchdown as a wide receiver, and logged three passes defended and 15 tackles as a cornerback. The Jaguars will take the field for a preseason matchup against the Carolina Panthers on Friday night.
