Tyler Shough Calls Out ‘Embarrassing’ Saints ‘MNF’ Loss to Falcons

Tyler Shough called out the New Orleans Saints after their "disappointing" loss on "Monday Night Football" to the Atlanta Falcons.

On a big night for New Orleans, Tyler Shough and the Saints failed to deliver a win for the home crowd, falling 45-24 to the Atlanta Falcons' dual running back attack. The combination of Bijan Robinson and Brian Robinson Jr. found the end zone five times throughout the game. Robinson Jr. had 62 rushing yards and scored three touchdowns, while Bijan Robinson had 19 carries for 145 yards and two touchdowns.

Quarterback Shough didn't play terribly, completing 30 of 48 passes for 286 yards and a touchdown. However, he was sacked twice, and his team couldn't score enough to keep up with Atlanta. "It's extremely disappointing.

It's embarrassing, and I can't say enough good things about the fans showing up, the entire process, what this game meant, and we fell short as a team to not get that win," Shough told reporters after the game. We gotta do better on all fronts, and you know, us as an offense starting faster when it comes to another really good offense as well and being able to do our part," he said postgame.

"We gotta do a lot better there, and it starts with myself." The "Monday Night Football" game in New Orleans commemorated the 20th anniversary of Hurricane Katrina with the Saints hosting a "Domecoming" at their stadium, which celebrated the Sept. 25, 2006 game the team played after Katrina. Pregame activities included former players Steve Gleason and Curtis Deloatch being honored on the field and a special chant in the arena. In the ensuing game, New Orleans had 320 total yards of offense, but the bulk of that was from the passing game.

Even though Alvin Kamara scored two touchdowns, the Falcons limited the Saints' rushing attack, holding them to 50 yards all game. The Saints have shown fight through their four games, including their Week 1 overtime battle with Detroit, but clearly the "MNF" loss stung, especially at home on such a big night. The loss dropped them to 1-3, while the Falcons improved to 2-2 with Michael Penix Jr. as their starting quarterback.

Next up, the Saints will host one of the NFL's remaining undefeated squads, as the Minnesota Vikings will be in town on Sunday, Oct. 11, for a 1 p.m. More news: Patrick Mahomes’ Wife Trolls Klint Kubiak After Chiefs Hand Raiders First Loss For more about the New Orleans Saints and the NFL, visit Newsweek Sports.
