A few months ago, the fuzzy Leeds garage rockers Vehicle impressed the hell out of us with their single "Escalators." The band's revved-up '60s-style twinkle hits the same pleasure centers as Sharp Pins and the Tubs, two bands that have shared stages with Vehicle. Next year, Vehicle will release their full-length debut Fumes, which might make it difficult for people with carbon-monoxide situations to Google what to do about "vehicle fumes." Vehicle haven't unveiled the tracklist or cover art for Fumes yet, but they've got a new single that kicks just as hard as "Escalators." Frontman Michael Cable starts the new song "Miserable Vibes" drawling over nothing but his own guitar, and when the rest of the band comes crashing in, the vibes aren't miserable at all. Here's how Cable describes the track: A withdrawn nostalgia addict goes cold turkey, everything floats to the surface, the conclusion is an elusive one.
Archive footage floats across the words — our hero doesn’t know what era they’re from anymore, the song is about the strange guilt of living in a present that borrows too heavily from the past. In the end it doesn’t really matter: "I love wasting time." Denim’s 1992 album Back In Denim is a big influence on this one.
