But the five-time CrossFit Games champ found the motivation to train to failure at the 2015 CrossFit Games, when he finished in second place. Fraser remembers feeling devastated—finishing as a runner-up felt like a personal offense to his purpose and identity. Fraser says he’s on the right track when he’s “tasting pennies,” the top of his head is tingling, and his heart rate is over 200 bpm.

Fraser tells MH fitness director Ebenezer Samuel, C.S.C.S. and exercise physiologist and strength coach Dr. Pat Davidson that he used to dry heave or grab a bucket as his breakfast came back up before every competition. In the episode, the trio delved more into the hardest workouts he did to prepare for the Games, what it's like to train recreationally versus for competition, and how to exercise and fuel your body when you only have 15 minutes.
