layyyter pretty much owned this summer thanks to viral hits like “CRANK” and “DANCE…” from her fourth album, Worst Girl in America. As she gears up to drop WGIA’s brother album, Worst Man in America, this December, she’s already given fans a peek into the project with her new song, “i think he’s got a girl.” As her star continues to rise, listeners are becoming more intrigued with her personal life and the stories that inspired her music. That’s where her reported ex, Charlie Shuffler, comes in.
Songs like “brand new chanel$” and “OLD FLING$” have made fans side-eye her past relationship with him, as her lyrics basically call an ex out for cheating. Before she drops more music (and lore), here’s what we know about Slayyyter and her ex, Charlie Shuffler. Slayyyter and Charlie reportedly dated from late 2024 to early 2026, when she publicly spoke about the end of a relationship without naming names. (More on that later!) She’s posted TikToks with him in the past to promote songs off WGIA, including this Uber moment soundtracked to her song, “CANNIBALISM!” According to since-deleted posts screenshotted by fan accounts, the pair also traveled together constantly, from Prague to Paris and Rome.
During an interview on Owen Thiele’s In Your Dreams podcast, Slayyyter revealed she found out she was cheated on before her Coachella debut. She claimed that her ex had brought another woman into their shared home in the days leading up to Worst Girl in America’s release. She also admitted that she was a “woman scorned” during her Coachella set, where she changed the lyrics in her song “I’M ACTUALLY KINDA FAMOUS” from “Oh, you know my boyfriend?” to “Oh, you fucked my boyfriend?” Months later, she released “brand new chanel$,” which includes details of the cheating incident she mentioned on the podcast.
Other songs, like “crank 2” and “i think he’s got a girl,” explore the different stages of emotion during the downfall of her last relationship. While the artist has never explicitly confirmed the songs are about Charlie, fans put their detective skills to work and tracked down clues that led to her last relationship, pre-WGIA. According to The Fader, Charlie is a former Division II athlete who started making beats after an injury caused him to stop playing competitive sports.
He eventually became a music producer who gained traction in the emo rap SoundCloud era. (Interesting, since Slayyyter also got her start on the same platform back in 2019.) He’s worked with artists from Lil Yachty to the late Lil Peep, whom he considered a close friend and collaborator. These days, Charlie primarily DJs at Old Flings in the East Village, and, according to Slayyyter, the spot also inspired her song of the same name when they were still together. During an interview on The Zach Sang Show, she said, “Old Flings is the name of this bar in New York, and the song is kind of about my boyfriend.
When we would go out, we would see these girls from his past [who] would, like, kind of come around or come to his DJ sets and things.” While the artist hasn’t named names when it comes to the songs inspired by her recent split, fans have largely speculated that he’s the muse behind Worst Man in America.
