Wild Cam Ward Stat Makes Bust Debate Impossible to Ignore

A startling Cam Ward statistic is raising new questions about the Titans quarterback as Tennessee struggles through an 0-5 start.

No quarterback in the NFL has taken more heat this season than Cam Ward. Despite bringing in quarterback whisperer Brian Daboll as offensive coordinator and drafting top wide receiver Carnell Tate in the 2026 draft, the Tennessee Titans still have one of the worst offenses in football and sit 0-5 to start the season. Ward was the No. 1 overall pick in the 2025 draft, but talk of him already being a bust has quickly gained momentum.

And after the latest stats shared by Warren Sharp, it's becoming increasingly difficult to defend the young quarterback. According to Sharp, Ward has been blitzed on just 20.5% of his dropbacks, the lowest rate in the NFL. He's also been pressured on just 30.9% of his dropbacks, the ninth-lowest rate in the league.

Yet despite receiving relatively solid protection, Ward is averaging just 5.8 yards per attempt (YPA) and -0.20 expected points added (EPA), ranking 35th and 34th among qualified quarterbacks, respectively. He also ranks 35th in explosive gain rate. More news: Dolphins HC Jeff Hafley Makes Malik Willis Decision After 0-5 Start Ward's rookie season was already rough, but at least then he had legitimate excuses.

He lost his head coach Brian Callahan and his top receiver Calvin Ridley midseason, and played behind one of the worst offensive lines in the league. He was sacked a league-high 55 times, making it difficult to establish any kind of consistency. This season was supposed to be different.

Tennessee hired respected head coach Robert Saleh and brought in Daboll to help develop Ward. The Titans also drafted Tate and signed Wan'Dale Robinson. With an experienced coaching staff, improved weapons, and a cleaner pocket, Ward was expected to take a significant step forward.

Through five games, he's completed just 63.2% of his passes for 896 yards and three touchdowns with three interceptions. The Titans continue to struggle to move the ball consistently, ranking dead-last in total yards (246.4 per game) and points (11.6 per game). Ward has made too many questionable decisions, forced throws, and costly mistakes, and still looks like a quarterback trying to adjust to the speed of the NFL.
