The Milwaukee Brewers won the franchise's first ever World Series title on Wednesday night by beating the Tampa Bay Rays 4–1 in Game 5. There were plenty of stars on the Brewers' squad this season and during the playoffs, but catcher William Contreras ended up winning the World Series MVP. He held all of the team's best averages during the postseason, posting .373/.448/.588 and 1.037 OPS.
It was a well-deserved honor. And, it was even more special for Contreras to win MVP knowing that his brother Willson, the Boston Red Sox's catcher, was in the audience cheering him on. A fan caught a video of Willson in the stands right as the Brewers secured their last out to win the 2026 World Series title.
He was holding onto the person's jersey in front of him and hiding his face in excitement. He shouted and jumped up and down in celebration for his younger brother, who is now a two-time World Series champion after winning with the Atlanta Braves in 2021. What a wholesome moment to be caught on camera.
Hopefully the Contreras brothers got to celebrate together afterwards. The Contreras brothers now have three World Series titles amongst the two of them as Willson won in 2016 with the Chicago Cubs. They sit in an exclusive club with those wins.
According to MLB, only 10 sets of brothers in the history of the league have won World Series titles in their careers. The last pair of brothers to win World Series titles were J.D. and Stephen Drew, with J.D. winning with the Red Sox in 2007 and Stephen winning with Boston in 2013.
