A woman is fighting for her life after being stabbed twice in the neck while running along a waterfront path in New York City. Katie Suarez, 28, was attacked on Friday evening in the Bath Beach neighborhood of Brooklyn. Police are still searching for the person responsible.

Suarez, who was reportedly training for the New York City Marathon, is on life support at NYU Langone Hospital-Brooklyn. The NYPD has released a photograph of Suarez and appealed for witnesses who may have seen her shortly before the attack. In a statement to Newsweek, it said: "The New York City Police Department is asking anyone who may have seen her on Friday, October 30, 2026, between [7.56 p.m. and 8.12 p.m.], in the vicinity of the eastbound bike path along the Belt Parkway, between Bay 8 Street and Bay 17 Street, or who may have information regarding this assault, to come forward." The police said she was running along the Shore Parkway Greenway, near Bay 17 Street, at around 8 p.m. on October 30 when she was stabbed.

Suarez had finished work at a nearby TD Bank branch earlier that evening and changed into running clothes before setting off along the waterfront. She was thought to be planning to meet her parents after finishing her run. Her father spoke to her by telephone at around 8 p.m., when she told him she was about half a mile away, according to ABC7 New York.

When she never showed and stopped answering calls, her father went looking for her. He discovered her seriously injured on the path. Emergency responders took her to NYU Langone Hospital-Brooklyn, where she was admitted in critical condition.

NYPD Chief of Detectives Joseph Kenny told NBC New York on Sunday that Suarez remained gravely injured. He said: "As of right now her condition, she is in grave condition." Police have not publicly identified a suspect or established a motive for the stabbing. No arrests have been announced.

Investigators have searched the area using police dogs, divers and aerial resources as they attempt to establish what happened. Officers have also faced difficulties obtaining surveillance footage from the immediate area of the attack. Kenny appealed to drivers who were traveling on the nearby Belt Parkway on Friday evening to come forward with anything they may have witnessed.
