New York Yankees star infielder Jazz Chisholm Jr. was recently placed on the 10-day injured list after suffering a sprained thumb during the AL East club's series against the Colorado Rockies. Chisholm suffered his injury after jamming his thumb while sliding headfirst into second base. Following this, Yankees manager Aaron Boone shared that Chisholm will not be able to participate in baseball activities for seven to 10 days.
The timing of this injury is certainly tough for the Yankees, as they are trying to catch up to the Tampa Bay Rays for the first-place spot in the AL East. Furthermore, Chisholm suffering this injury so close to the start of the postseason is also concerning. Yet, while speaking with USA Today's Pete Caldera, Chisholm expressed that he is confident in his "healing abilities" and believes he will be good to return to action before New York's regular season is over.
Hearing that Chisholm is optimistic that he will return to the Yankees' lineup before the end of the regular season is encouraging. The Yankees could use him during the final portion of the season, so he will need to focus on his recovery while he is on the injured list. In 134 games so far this season with the Yankees, Chisholm has posted 19 home runs, 55 RBI, and a .232 batting average.
This is after he posted 31 home runs, 80 RBI, and a .242 batting average in 130 games last season for the Yankees.
