With temperatures dropping and the holiday season right around the corner, streaming boosts are all but guaranteed in November. Netflix is diving head first into the Christmas season with the launch of several original holiday movies, but the streamer is also getting a jump on Oscar season with the launch of international awards season hopefuls such as “Possible Love” and “Gentle Monster.” Netflix will also be the streaming home for Chris Rock’s “Misty Green,” which launched at the Toronto International Film Festival in September to instant Oscar buzz for breakout star Rosalind Eleazar. The Dominic Sessa-starring Anthony Bourdain coming-of-age dramedy “Tony” launches on HBO Max right before Thanksgiving after a sturdy box office run over the summer.

Netflix, meanwhile, is offering up Peter Berg’s harrowing and inspirational war drama “The Mosquito Bowl” as its big original offering for Thanksgiving weekend. Check out a full rundown below of the biggest movies streaming in November. A24’s Anthony Bourdain biopic “Tony,” starring “The Holdovers” breakout Dominic Sessa as the chef and cultural icon, was a modest summer box office hit with nearly $20 million worldwide.

The indie coming-of-age drama now arrives on HBO Max just in time for Thanksgiving. Variety’s review praised Sessa for giving a “movie-star performance” and heralded the movie for having “the enchanted spirit of discovery that recalls ‘Adventureland’ and the films of Richard Linklater.” Chris Rock’s latest feature directorial effort “Misty Green” is being rushed to streaming via Netflix after debuting in theaters last month via A24. While the indie studio has an exclusive streaming deal with HBO Max, “Misty Green” is launching on Netflix due to the director’s deep ties with platform.

Rosalind Eleazar gives a breakout performance as a struggling, self-sabotaging Hollywood actor who gets one last shot at redemption when a dream audition pops up. Variety’s review hailed Eleazar’s performance as “explosively entertaining and savagely authentic.” Lee Chang-dong’s acclaimed drama “Possible Love” won the grand jury prize at the Venice Film Festival and is a leading contender to land an Oscar nomination in the best intentional film category. Starring Jeon Do-yeon, Sul Kyung-gu, Zo In-sung and Cho Yeo-Jeong, “Possible Love” centers on two couples — one pair is a laid-off worker and his spouse, and the other is a documentary filmmaker and her spouse — whose lives intermix in stirringly powerful ways.

Variety’s review praised the movie as a “beautifully mature, quietly colossal relationship drama.” “Lone Survivor” and “Deepwater Horizon” director Peter Berg helms Netflix’s true story World War II drama about four of America’s top college football stars who set their fame aside to enlist in the Marines following the attack on Pearl Harbor. As they prepare for the brutal invasion of Okinawa, they play in a legendary game featuring some of the greatest players in college football history. Nicholas Galitzine leads the ensemble alongside Bill Skarsgård, Ray Nicholson and Tom Francis.

Paul Greengrass’ historical thriller “The Uprising” struggled at the box office earlier this fall but should find renewed interest when it streams on Peacock ahead of the holiday movie season. Set in the aftermath of the Black Plague, when King Richard II was levying brutal taxes on his subjects to fund the Hundred Years’ War, the movie stars Andrew Garfield as the leader of a rebellion against the tyranny of the king. Jessica Chastain headlines Netflix’s country music thriller “Heartland,” written and directed by Shana Feste.
