Cowboys Named Team to Watch in Trade for Star Pass Rusher

The Cowboys have emerged as a team to watch for a Pro Bowl pass rusher as trade speculation grows ahead of the NFL deadline.

The NFL trade rumor mill has been hot over the last few weeks, and we're entering what could be the busiest stretch of the season. With the deadline set for Tuesday, Nov. 10, teams have just over a week to address any weaknesses on their roster, find reinforcements for a playoff push, or college future draft picks. We've already seen several blockbuster moves, and more are expected in the coming days.

One name generating plenty of attention is Arizona Cardinals star pass rusher Josh Sweat. According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, the Dallas Cowboys are a team to watch as interest in Sweat continues to grow ahead of the trade deadline. Dallas has been linked to Sweat for weeks, with several insiders viewing him as a good fit for the Cowboys.

The timing of the report is particularly interesting because Dallas hosts the Cardinals on Sunday, giving the Cowboys a chance to evaluate Sweat up close before potentially pursuing a deal. He spent his first seven seasons in Philly before signing a massive four-year, $76.4 million deal with the Cardinals in March 2025.

He then went on to have a career year in his first season in Arizona, recording a career-high 12 sacks along with 30 combined tackles (20 solo), 13 tackles for loss, 17 quarterback hits, four forced fumbles, and one fumble recovery. Through seven games this season, Sweat has again been the Cardinals' best pass rusher, posting 16 total tackles (11 solo), three tackles for loss, four quarterback hits, and two sacks. He's recorded three sacks in the last four games alone, including a strip-sack against the Rams in Week 6, a play that wasn't credited as a regular sack.

Arizona is 2-5 and eyeing down another losing season, and may be looking to collect more future draft capital rather than hold onto established veterans. There have also been recent reports of Sweat being unhappy after former head coach Jonathan Gannon's departure, and potentially wanting a new contract.

Dallas makes sense because they've again struggled to generate consistent pressure off the edge, and adding a proven difference-maker on that side of the ball could help drastically elevate the defense. The NFC East is wide open, and with the Cowboys already boasting one of the most high-powered offenses in football, trading for an elite edge rusher like Sweat makes too much sense.
