The Dallas Cowboys landed cornerback Joey Porter Jr. in a trade with the Pittsburgh Steelers earlier this week, bolstering their secondary early in the 2026 season. However, another team struggling in the secondary also made a push for the fourth-year CB. While speaking to reporters on Friday, Detroit Lions head coach Dan Campbell confirmed that his team was "very much in on" pursuing Porter before he ultimately landed in Dallas.
"Brad [Holmes] was on it for a while. Everything's gotta align," Campbell said. "We were very much in on it." The Lions released starting cornerback Terrion Arnold before the start of the 2026 season.
Reed is questionable for Sunday's Week 4 matchup against the Carolina Panthers as he deals with a ribs injury. Starting safeties Brian Branch and Kerby Joseph also began the year on the PUP list. The Cowboys landed Porter in exchange for a 2027 sixth-round pick and a 2028 second-round pick.
The Cowboys will face off against the Houston Texans in a Week 4 matchup on Sunday. The Lions will matchup against the Panthers in primetime at 8:20 p.m.
