Canadian City Considers Renaming Trump Avenue To 'Taco Avenue'

The Ottawa City Council voted unanimously on Wednesday to take the first step toward renaming Trump Avenue.

Canada's capital is considering renaming a street named after President Donald Trump, and one of the possible replacements is "Taco Avenue." The Ottawa City Council voted unanimously Wednesday to take the first step toward renaming Trump Avenue—a residential street located in the Central Park neighborhood—which has carried the name for roughly 25 years. Tim Tierney, an Ottawa City Councilor, told CNN that other new name suggestions for the street include: Pelosi Avenue, Obama Avenue, Gulf of Mexico Avenue, and even Rosie O'Donnell Avenue. "Taco Avenue" is a reference to the acronym coined in 2025 meaning "Trump Always Chickens Out," which became popular online following the president's threats to implement steep global tariffs.

The council's vote came one day before Trump signed an executive order directing the U.S. government to refer to Lake Ontario as "Lake America." The order applies to federal agencies in the U.S., but cannot compel Canada to adopt the new name. A change to Trump Avenue is far from guaranteed. More than half of the affected residents must support renaming the street, after which a replacement would undergo a separate public consultation process.

Officials do not expect the effort to advance until after Ottawa's municipal election in October. This is a developing story.
