Chiefs Finally Get Patrick Mahomes a True WR1 in New Mock Draft

Patrick Mahomes hasn't had a true No. 1 WR for four years, and the Kansas City Chiefs could remedy that by drafting this player.

The last time the Kansas City Chiefs had a true game-breaking No. 1 wide receiver was Tyreek Hill’s final season with the team back in 2021. It’s been four long years of enduring a passing game that relied on aging tight end Travis Kelce to carry the load, but the misery could end for Chiefs fans when the team picks in the 2027 NFL draft. The Bleacher Report scouting department recently put out its newest mock draft, in which it has Kansas City grabbing Alabama wide receiver Ryan Coleman-Williams with the 24th overall pick.

His electric playmaking will be welcomed by Patrick Mahomes, as long as he cleans up the lapses in concentration.” Coleman-Williams burst onto the scene as a freshman with the Crimson Tide in 2024. He turned heads with his 48-catch, 856-yard, eight-touchdown debut season. That performance had fans debating whether or not Coleman-Williams or Ohio State’s Jeremiah Smith was the best freshman receiver in the country.

Though he had a bit of a down season last year (49 catches, 689 yards, four TDs), scouts are expecting big things from Coleman-Williams in 2026 with five-star quarterback Keelon Russell likely taking over as the Tide’s starting QB. If Coleman-Williams does fall into the Chiefs’ lap, he would immediately be the most talented WR on their roster. Rashee Rice showed flashes as a rookie back in 2023, but his off-the-field issues have halted any momentum he had.

Speedster Xavier Worthy is a fine WR2, but he’s not built to handle the workload of a No. 1 receiver. Coleman-Williams’ presence would allow Worthy to do what he does best: catch screens and turn them for big yardage up-field or catch quick strikes near the line of scrimmage and use his speed and creativity to find holes in the defense. The rest of KC’s WR room — Cyrus Allen, Jalen Royals, and Tyquan Thornton — are nothing more than third- and fourth-string depth options.

Adding a weapon like Coleman-Williams would go a long way toward helping Patrick Mahomes find his 2022 form.
