Indianapolis Colts wide receiver Alec Pierce aggravated his surgically repaired heel during Sunday night's loss to the Kansas City Chiefs. Pierce left the game in the first half and was unable to return to the field as the Colts dropped a 33-30 loss in overtime at Arrowhead Stadium. Pierce will attempt to rehab the injury without undergoing another surgery, according to a report from NFL insider Ian Rapoport.
The 26-year-old wide receiver is expected to miss several weeks, but could return for Indianapolis sometime midseason. "It’s likely that Alec Pierce will head to IR while he recovers," Rapoport added. "If all goes well, he could recover without surgery.
But it’s not a guarantee. Surgery is still possible." Soon after this report from Rapoport, Tom Pelissero reported that the Colts are signing veteran wide receiver Darius Slayton. Slayton spent the first seven seasons of his NFL career with the New York Giants, but was ultimately cut before the team's season-opening contest.
He joined the Giants the same year as quarterback Daniel Jones, who now plays QB for the Colts. Through 14 game appearances and 12 starts in 2025, Slayton reeled in 37 catches for 538 yards and one touchdown. The 0-2 Colts will look to notch their first win of the 2026 season in a Week 3 matchup against the Houston Texans this coming Sunday.
