Former Indianapolis Colts star Reggie Wayne was the consummate professional over the course of his 14-year NFL career. On Thursday, Wayne made it clear that he would like to see the team follow suit despite the fire sale happening in Indianapolis following their 2-5 start to the 2026 NFL season. This week has been a whirlwind for players on the Colts, who are almost certainly feeling a bit uneasy and unsure of what the future holds after the organization opted trading perennial Pro Bowl guard Quenton Nelson and former Pro Bowl defensive tackle DeForest Buckner in a pair of deals to the Seattle Seahawks and San Francisco 49ers this week.
This may just be the tip of the iceberg in what could be a full-fledged gutting of this Colts roster prior to the NFL trade deadline. Rumors are still circulating about the team potentially moving star running back Jonathan Taylor. And starting wide receiver Josh Downs notably requested a trade publicly on Wednesday.

Regardless, Wayne, who serves as the team's wide receiver's coach, wants to see his players continuing to play with 100 percent effort for the rest of the season no matter who remains in the organization. "We've got ten games left," said Wayne when speaking with reporters on Thursday.
"Number two in the division. There is a lot of ball left. Either we can make y'all liars and have y'all saying 'We knew you guys were gonna do it'.
So you select what path you want to go down." More news: Chiefs OC Eric Bieniemy Delivers Blunt Reaction to Seahawks Loss The message is largely crystal clear from Wayne. Rightfully, not many fans truly believe in the Colts following Nelson and Buckner being moved. So whoever remains on the Colts following the deadline has a real opportunity to prove their doubters wrong and potentially turn around their season.
That obviously may be easier said than done. Especially if we see more Colts players moved prior to the deadline. So it will sure be interesting to see how things play out in Indianapolis as the NFL trade deadline looms closer.
