The Washington Commanders are off to a rough start to the 2026 season, going 1-3-1 through five weeks. The team is coming off of the disappointing and embarrassing overtime tie to the New York Giants last Sunday when the Commanders failed to manage the clock well to figure out how to win the game. It sounds like the Commanders are trying to turn the page in a positive direction, though.
And, their hopes are extremely high. Washington linebacker K’Lavon Chaisson told reporters his team's outlandish goal for the rest of the 2026 season: win the final 12 games in a row, reach the Super Bowl and then win the title. "Obviously we want to go one week at a time and focus on that," Chaisson said.
"13-3-1 is a weird Super Bowl-winning record, but [expletive] we'll take it. Whatever it takes to get there." Never give up on your dreams, but this does seem a bit impossible. It is early in the season, but the Commanders sit fourth in the NFC East standings and have one of the worst records in the league.
Things would need to turn quickly for the Commanders to even have the possibility of reaching the playoffs, let alone the Super Bowl. It's good to have goals, though. The worst winning record from a regular season recorded by a Super Bowl champion is the 9-7 record from the 2011 New York Giants.
So, if the Commanders can establish a winning record and climb up the rankings, then they could theoretically have a chance of reaching the playoffs and the Super Bowl. Winning 12 games in a row to finish out the season, though, would be extremely tough, on the other hand. The Commanders will start their quest to end the season on 12 wins when facing the undefeated San Francisco 49ers on Monday night.
