Dallas Cowboys head coach Brian Schottenheimer has not been impressed with one of the team's starters.

The Dallas Cowboys are hoping to have a bounce back season after finishing with a disappointing 7-9-1 record in 2025. However, for that to happen, everyone must be at their best, and that's not something head coach Brian Schottenheimer is seeing from one of the team's starters. Schottenheimer recently called out starting right tackle Terence Steele, demanding more consistency from the seventh-year vet.

He needs to be better.” That's certainly a blunt assessment, especially for the oldest and most experienced member along the Cowboys offensive line, but it proves nobody is going to just be handed a starting job in Dallas. Steele, 29, has been plugged into the Cowboys starting lineup since his rookie season, during which he became just the fourth offensive tackle in the Super Bowl era, and the ninth in league history, to start at least 14 contests as an undrafted rookie. He has also started all 17 games over the past three seasons and played 99% of the Cowboys’ offensive snaps during the span.

That's exactly why Cowboys offensive coordinator Klayton Adams thinks Steele's woes could be due to being overworked. He’s never going to ask for a break. So we’re just searching for ways to help him and help him play at his best and most consistently.” There isn't much time between now and the start of the season to give Steele a break, but the Cowboys might want to do their best to find some in order to get the best play out of him with a long season ahead.
