After suffering a deflating loss in Week 1, a big game from quarterback Dallas Cowboys was just what the team needed to get things turned around early in their season. Dak Prescott delivered in a big way, completing 26 of 31 passes for 279 yards and four touchdowns to lead his team to the 37-20 victory. With that performance, Prescott also further cemented his legacy as one of the Cowboy's all-time greatest quarterbacks.
With his four touchdowns against the Commanders, he passed former Cowboys QB Tony Romo as the all-time touchdown passes leader. Prescott now has 249 in his career, and Dallas has 15 more games remaining in their season. It's an impressive feat for Prescott, considering how many games it took him to reach the top spot on the all-time Cowboys list.
Romo needed 156 games to get 248 touchdowns, while Prescott needed only 141 to take over the record. That's one thing Romo never achieved in his career, and Prescott is still seeking.
They aren't currently in the Super Bowl conversation, with odds of +2500 at DraftKings. Many teams are still considered stronger contenders, such as Josh Allen and the Buffalo Bills or Matthew Stafford and the Los Angeles Rams. However, a winning streak powered by Prescott playing like an MVP candidate might get people talking a lot more about Dallas.
On Sunday, the team seemed back on track for a successful season. Prescott found two of his favorite targets twice, with wide receiver CeeDee Lamb and tight end Jake Ferguson each having big games. Lamb had the biggest of any player with eight receptions for 153 yards and two touchdowns.
Prescott entered this season as No. 31 on the NFL Top 100 Players of 2026 list, which fellow players vote on. It was a move up from No. 48 in 2025. He may still have taken that spot personally, or not, but Sunday's performance could be the start of more stellar outings this season.
