The Indianapolis Colts are looking forward to having Daniel Jones back for the regular season after he suffered a torn Achilles late in the 2025 NFL season. He's been participating in practices with the team and preparing for Week 1. On Monday, the team's QB1 appeared on "The Pat McAfee Show" amid practice to talk about his progression since recovering from his season-ending injury.
I'd say maybe there's still a little bit of progress still to be made," Jones said. "Just kind of the overall conditioning of it and building up your workload on it through the course of a training camp. "Like I said, I don't have any limitations.
I feel quick, I feel like I can get out of the pocket, and I can move around in the pocket well and all that stuff. So, I think there's still, you know, a process to it, but I feel really good," he also told McAfee. However, the team's QB1 watched from the sidelines for the Colts' Week 1 preseason game against the New England Patriots, a 13-13 tie. Instead, backups Anthony Richardson Sr. and Riley Leonard got some time on the field. Richardson went 11 of 14 on his passes for 145 yards and a touchdown, while Leonard completed 10 of 21 passes for 89 yards.
Each QB threw an interception, with Leonard also being sacked once. Ahead of his season-ending injury, Jones was on pace for a successful season. After 13 games, he had racked up 3,101 passing yards and 19 touchdowns with eight interceptions.
His 63 QBR was eighth-best among NFL quarterbacks. The Colts were considered among potential playoff teams during the earlier part of the season, with Jones a big reason why. He finished with an 8-5 record before getting hurt, and the Colts lost their last four games, causing them to miss the playoffs.
