Eagles Have Serious Injury Worry Emerge on Offense

The Philadelphia Eagles have more injury worries on the offensive line after Lane Johnson retired and the team traded Cam Jurgens.

The Philadelphia Eagles are set to play the Jacksonville Jaguars without two starting offensive linemen who were on the roster in Week 4, but there's another injury for the unit that's becoming a worry. Earlier this week, right tackle Lane Johnson decided to retire after missing the Eagles' 24-20 loss to the Los Angeles Rams on Sunday. On Wednesday, Philadelphia traded offensive lineman Cam Jurgens and a 2027 seventh-round pick to the Baltimore Ravens in exchange for a 2027 fifth-round pick and a 2028 second-round pick.

Jurgens, a two-time Pro Bowl center, was moved to guard early in the season but struggled at his new position. He'll move back to center for the Ravens. The Eagles liked what they had seen from center Drew Kendall, which made them comfortable to trade Jurgens for a second-round pick.

He missed Wednesday's practice as well. Jake Majors, an undrafted free agent in 2025, took over starting center duties at practice while Willie Lampkin moved to left guard.

Philadelphia's offensive line has been a concern through the first four games of the season. The Eagles have given up 12 sacks and are averaging 4.2 yards per rush. Philadelphia could be without star running back Saquon Barkley against the Jaguars as he's battling a hamstring injury.

The decision to trade Jurgens at a time when Kendall is dealing with an injury might be confusing to Eagles fans. On Wednesday, Philadelphia general manager Howie Roseman explained that the trade would help the team remain competitive for a long time. The cost is that the Eagles’ interior part of the offensive line could be worse until Kendall is able to play fully healthy, and he might not be able to compete at a high level when Philadelphia plays one of the AFC's best teams in London on Sunday.
