Florida State didn't appear to have the necessary funds to part ways with head coach Mike Norvell after a disappointing 5-7 record last season. In 2023, the Noles went just 2-10. The noise is continuing to grow for Norvell's ouster after Florida State lost 27-24 at home to SMU on Monday night.
The buyout for Norvell is still hefty this year, standing at approximately $49 million. The website includes facts on the head coach's tenure with the Seminoles.
The goal of the website is to have 250,000 FSU fans donate $102 apiece, raising $25.5 million, which would account for nearly half of the cost of Norvell's buyout. Fundraising is not yet live on the website, though there is a box that says it's "coming soon." The website claims to be "independent fan perspective. Not affiliated with or endorsed by FSU, Seminole Boosters, or Mike Norvell." A $25.5 million boost would certainly help Florida State if it decided to fire Norvell before the 2027 season.
Still, the $49 million buyout is about half of what the program must consider if the Noles want to go in a new direction. On Wednesday, Pete Nakos of On3 reported that it would take approximately $100 million for FSU to buy out Norvell's contract, hire a new coaching staff and build a new competitive roster. Even if savefsufootball.com were to raise its goal of $25.5 million, it would take another $75 million for Florida State to make the change.
