Sean McVay begins his 10th season with the Los Angeles Rams by facing the San Francisco 49ers in Australia on Thursday night. Even for an astronomical return, general manager Les Snead wouldn't consider parting ways with the NFC's longest-tenured head coach. Jon Wertheim asked Snead how many first-round picks McVay is worth during a "60 Minutes" interview that will air on CBS this Sunday.
Snead told the longtime sports columnist there's no cost that would sway him to trade his coach. "If I could write on this whiteboard here, I would write, there's no trade chart for Sean McVay," Snead said. When Wertheim pressed further, Snead confirmed that McVay is "not on the table" under any circumstances.
"Still not pulling the trigger," Snead declared. "Not for four, not for five." Snead hypothetically rejected what would be the richest trade offer for a head coach in NFL history. None have ever fetched three first-round picks, with the Denver Broncos most recently sending the No. 29 pick and a future second-rounder to the New Orleans Saints for Sean Payton and a third-rounder in 2023.
The Rams relinquished one first-rounder among four picks traded to the Kansas City Chiefs for All-Pro cornerback Trent McDuffie, so most superstar players still wouldn't draw five first-round selections. That shows how much Snead values McVay as a face of the franchise. The Rams are 92-57 under McVay, giving them the NFL's fourth-most wins since 2017.
They have made seven playoff appearances and won one of two Super Bowls. Los Angeles has finished the last two seasons first in total yards and points behind the offensive mastermind, who stewarded Matthew Stafford to his first MVP win at age 37. McVay is part of the reason why the Rams open the 2026 season as heavy favorites to win the Super Bowl.
