The Vegas Golden Knights have made a big announcement regarding captain Mark Stone ahead of the start of their training camp. This is because the Golden Knights have announced that they have signed Stone to a two-year, $9 million AAV contract extension. Stone was entering the 2026-27 season as a pending unrestricted free agent.
However, with this news, he will now officially not be hitting the free agent next summer and will be staying put in Las Vegas. Seeing the Golden Knights work quickly to sign Stone to a contract extension is not surprising in the slightest. This is because the 34-year-old forward is not only their leader but still a star in the NHL at this stage in his career.
Thus, getting Stone extended was simply a no-brainer for the Pacific Division club. Stone posted 28 goals, 45 assists, 73 points, and a plus-26 rating in 60 games last season for the Golden Knights. In 400 games over eight seasons with Vegas, he has recorded 136 goals, 260 assists, 396 points, and a plus-112 rating.
He also won the Stanley Cup with the Golden Knights in 2023.
