New York Jets fans collectively held their breath on Monday morning when star running back Breece Hall went down with a non-contact injury in practice. It was later diagnosed as a right groin strain, and while head coach Aaron Glenn downplayed the severity, any extended absence would have been devastating for the Jets' offense. Thankfully, it looks like that won't be the case.
A follow-up report confirmed the injury is minor, with SNY's Connor Hughes reporting that Hall is being viewed as week-to-week. The regular season is just weeks away, so it's still not ideal, but it's a better outlook than the month-to-month evaluation some had speculated. He appeared in just seven games as a rookie before tearing his ACL, but in that time rushed for 463 yards and four touchdowns on 80 carries — a whopping 5.8 yards per carry — to go with 218 receiving yards and a receiving touchdown. He's missed just two games since that injury, and his rushing totals have only gone up as well, capped off by a career-high 2025 campaign in which he rushed for 1,065 yards and four touchdowns on 243 carries (4.4 yards per carry), adding 350 receiving yards and a receiving score. Across four seasons, he has 3,398 rushing yards, 1,642 receiving yards, and 27 total touchdowns, and remains one of the league's premier dual-threat backs.
The Jets rewarded him accordingly in March, signing him to a three-year, $45.75 million extension through the 2028 season, with an average annual salary of $14.5 million — the eighth-highest mark in the NFL. Hall played in the Jets' preseason opener against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Friday, rushing for 16 yards on four carries, days before Monday's injury scare. He may have to sit out the team's remaining two preseason games, but there's a good chance he'll be ready for Week 1 against the Tennessee Titans on Sunday, Sept. 13.
