The LSU Tigers will welcome the Clemson Tigers for their first matchup of the 2026 college football season on Saturday night. This matchup features plenty of intrigue, most notably the conversation surrounding LSU's attempt to play former NFL players. Lane Kiffin's program has added multiple former professional players to their roster ahead of the season opener, and the college football world is currently awaiting a decision on whether or not they'll take the field on Saturday.
Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney responded to this controversy during a press conference earlier this week, calling the pursuit of former NFL players "embarrassing." During an appearance with ESPN's "Get Up" on Friday morning, "College GameDay" analyst Kirk Herbstreit warned LSU about a "pissed off" Clemson team that will come out of the tunnel on Saturday night. "Now they've got to play kind of a pissed off Clemson team who nobody's talking about coming out of the ACC," Herbstreit said. "They're pretty excited about having a chance to come in here and try to pull off an upset.
It's game on tomorrow night." LSU is listed as a double-digit favorite over Clemson in Kiffin's debut as head coach in Baton Rouge. Saturday's game will kick off at 7:30 p.m.
