While a 41-31 loss to the Buffalo Bills in Week 2 surely stung, it was extra difficult for six Detroit Lions players — especially star receivers Amon-Ra St. Brown and Jameson Williams. The NFL released its list of weekly fines on Saturday, and Detroit was unfortunately well-represented.
Those six Lions players were fined a league-high 10 times — including seven for illegal celebrations and vulgar acts — totaling a massive $130,960 in fines. The NFL faced heavy criticism from analysts and fans on social media for the excessive number of “illegal celebrations and vulgar acts” fines they doled out.
The league issued 13 fines totaling $182,135 for controversial celebrations in Week 2. Brown, Sewell, and Williams weren’t the only ones who faced the NFL’s wrath for their celebratory actions. Cincinnati Bengals WRs Ja’Marr Chase and Tee Higgins, Dallas Cowboys tight end Jake Ferguson, and San Francisco 49ers fullback Kyle Juszczyk were also singled out by the NFL for their celebratory antics.
