Major Injury Update for Lamar Jackson and the Ravens

Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson receives an encouraging injury update ahead of Sunday's AFC North matchup against the Browns.

The Baltimore Ravens could be getting their starting quarterback back sooner than expected. After missing Baltimore's Week 5 victory over the Atlanta Falcons with an ankle injury, Lamar Jackson reportedly has a realistic chance of returning to the field this weekend. According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, Jackson could be available for Sunday's AFC North matchup against the Cleveland Browns, providing an encouraging development for a Ravens team looking to maintain its early-season momentum.

"Ravens QB Lamar Jackson has a realistic chance to return for Sunday's game at Cleveland, per league source," Schefter reported Wednesday. The update comes after Jackson suffered an ankle injury during Baltimore's Week 4 victory over the Tennessee Titans. Jackson exited the game at halftime and did not return, leaving backup quarterback Tyler Huntley to finish the contest.

The Ravens held on for a 24-18 victory, but Jackson's injury immediately raised concerns about how long Baltimore might be without its two-time NFL MVP. Those concerns increased when Jackson missed practice the following week and was eventually ruled out against Atlanta. However, the latest report suggests his absence could be limited to just one game.

Ravens head coach Jesse Minter had already offered an encouraging update Monday, explaining that Jackson was making progress in his recovery. "He's definitely doing better," Minter said. Minter also acknowledged that the team was still evaluating whether Jackson would be ready to participate in practice Wednesday.

"To Lamar's credit, he's doing everything he can to get back out there," Minter added. "I think we'll know more by the middle of the week." Jackson's potential return would be significant for a Baltimore offense that has relied heavily on his ability to create plays through the air and on the ground. Through four appearances this season, Jackson has completed 70.8% of his passes for 967 yards, six touchdowns and one interception.

He has also contributed 144 rushing yards and another touchdown, continuing to provide the dual-threat production that makes him one of the NFL's most difficult quarterbacks to defend. Although the Ravens would welcome his return, Huntley has helped keep the team moving in his absence. The veteran quarterback stepped into the starting role against Atlanta and delivered a strong performance in Baltimore's 30-23 overtime victory.
