Seattle Mariners rookie shortstop Colt Emerson is reportedly undergoing season-ending wrist surgery to repair a partially dislocated tendon in his left wrist, general manager Justin Hollander announced Monday. Emerson has been out since Aug. 14 but is expected to be healthy for the start of the 2027 season. The 21-year-old has reportedly been dealing with the injury since spring training.
After the Mariners drafted him with the No. 22 overall pick in the 2023 MLB Draft, Emerson went on to make his MLB debut with the Seattle in May this season. Emerson, who turned 21 on July 20, was the youngest Mariners player to make his MLB debut since 19-year-old Felix Hernandez. Emerson slashed .190/246/.335 with eight home runs, 23 RBIs and three stolen bases in 69 games.
Dealing with the wrist injury all season led to struggles for Emerson in his rookie season. The Mariners initially announced Emerson would be optioned to Triple-A at the beginning of the month. Seattle ultimately placed him on the 10-day injured list on Aug. 14.
Emerson's last MLB game was against the New York Yankees the day prior on on Aug. 13.
