The Cincinnati Reds are going to be without one of their players for the remainder of the season. According to MLB.com's Mark Sheldon, Reds utility player Michael Toglia is undergoing season-ending shoulder surgery. This comes after the 28-year-old dislocated his right shoulder after making a diving catch against the Arizona Diamondbacks on Friday.
This is certainly a tough way for Toglia's season to come to an end. This is especially so when noting that he earned a call-up to the Reds' major league roster earlier this month after spending the beginning portion of the season in the minors. In 10 games this season with the Reds before suffering his season-ending injury, Toglia posted zero home runs, one RBI, and a .115 batting average.
This is after he recorded 11 home runs, 32 RBI, and a .190 batting average in 88 games for the Colorado Rockies during the 2025 season. In 97 games this campaign with Triple-A Louisville, Toglia posted 22 home runs, 65 RBI, and a .273 batting average. With numbers like these, he undoubtedly earned his call-up to the Reds' roster earlier this month, so it is a shame that his season is now over.
In 290 career MLB games over five seasons, Toglia has recorded 42 home runs, 109 RBI, and a .198 batting average. His best MLB season so far was in 2024, as he set career highs with 25 home runs, 55 RBI, and a .218 batting average in 116 games.
