The reigning MVP is closing in on a piece of NFL history no quarterback wants attached to his name. Los Angeles Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford owns 122 regular-season losses in his starts, one shy of Vinny Testaverde’s league-worst 123, according to Pro Football Talk’s Mike Florio. His next defeat would match the mark.
Florio ran through the numbers after Stafford absorbed his fourth loss of 2026. Those 122 losses are the second-most in NFL history, behind only Vinny Testaverde, who went 90-123-1. With another loss, Stafford will tie Testaverde for the most ever, and with two more losses, Stafford has the record all to himself,” Florio wrote.
Stafford’s career began with the Detroit Lions, where wins were hard to come by. Los Angeles has been kinder, and the Rams captured a Super Bowl in 2022. This season hasn’t gone to plan.
Many expected the Rams to open 2026 as the NFL’s best team, yet they rank fourth among NFC West clubs. Last season’s MVP has 11 touchdown passes and six interceptions through six weeks. He also leads the league in attempts, completions, and passing yards.
That workload stands out given the backfield. Kyren Williams is a 1,000-yard rusher, and Blake Corum has emerged as a capable No. 2 back. Against the Arizona Cardinals, the pass-run split was 33 to 20.
Williams and Corum combined for 19 of those carries and 92 yards. Davis Allen took the other handoff, a failed fourth-down fullback dive with the Rams inside scoring range. Rams coach and play-caller Sean McVay pinned the imbalance on late-game clock situations when asked about it a day later.
