The spy series Black Doves is back for a second season after two years, dropping all at once, on Guy Fawkes Day of all days, November 5. Need a refresher before you dive back into the Netflix series? Here’s everything you need to know about the new and returning cast of Black Doves season 2.
Some of the new characters are such big secrets, we actually don’t have any details yet. The first season, set at Christmas time, followed a politician’s wife with a double life as a spy in a covert organization called the Black Doves. When the man she was having an affair with is murdered, her handler calls in an assassin and old friend of hers for protection.
The two investigate her lover’s death and discover that he was part of something bigger and more dangerous than they knew. Obviously the second season will up the already sky-high stakes, and introduce new threats. That also means new characters and cast members.
Helen is a spy who “happens” to be married to a prominent conservative politician. Keira Knightley had a dual breakout in Hollywood in 2002 with Bend it Like Beckham and then, the next year, with Love Actually. Shortly thereafter she starred in Pirates of the Caribbean and Pride & Prejudice.
The latter earned her her first Academy Award nominated. She was nominated again in 2014 for The Imitation Game and has two BAFTA nominations, for that and for Atonement. She was also nominated for an Olivier after starring in The Misanthrope on the West End.
Other credits include King Arthur, Never Let Me Go, Domino, The Duchess, Anna Karenina, Colette, and Begin Again. Ben Whishaw has played two of the most iconic characters in the British canon: the Q to Daniel Craig’s James Bond, and Paddington himself. He is an Emmy and Golden Globe winner for A Very British Scandal, a BAFTA winner for that and This Is Going To Hurt, and a SAG nominee for Women Talking.
