The San Francisco Giants have had a nightmare 2026 season, and it has led to questions about star slugger Rafael Devers' future with the team. Due to this, MLB insider Buster Olney is urging the New York Yankees to trade for Devers during the offseason. "He would be perfect for the Yankees," Olney said about Devers.
"Because, basically, all he would have to do with the Yankees is just hit. He's got Aaron Judge there." ESPN's Paul Hembekides also agreed with Olney's take about the Devers and Yankees being a potential fit. "He'd be a great fit next to George Lombard Jr. and I'll tell you why, man," Hembekides said about Devers.
"I think he can fake it at third base. But when you have a superhero playing shortstop, which I believe Lombard will be, you don't need a gold glover playing third base for you. And I do believe the Yankees could coach Devers up to such an extent." The idea of Devers ending up on the Yankees would certainly be a nightmare for Red Sox fans.
This is because Devers was once Boston's top star before he was traded to the Giants last season. Seeing him become a Yankee would undoubtedly create a new storyline in the Red Sox's historic rivalry with New York. Yet, with Devers being a star power hitter and the Yankees needing help with their infield, it would make sense if they pursued Devers this offseason.
In 148 games this season with the Giants, Devers has 37 home runs, 98 RBI, and a .258 batting average.
