Paige Bueckers is the Dallas Wing' new single-season assists record-holder. Bueckers recorded her career-high 204th assist of the season during the Wings' 91-85 victory over the Indiana Fever on Thursday. In that game, the two-time WNBA All-Star led the Wings with eight assists in 35 minutes.
Only Fever guard Caitlin Clark had more assists during the game, logging nine in 35 minutes. Bueckers ranks eighth in the WNBA with an average of 5.8 assists per game this season. Chicago Sky guard Skylar Diggins, who played for the Wings for three seasons from 2016-18, previously held the franchise's single-season assists records.
Her 199 assists in 2018 and 198 in 2017 rank as the second and third-most assists by a Wings player in a single season. The Wings are currently in eighth place in the league with a 21-16 record this season. Dallas can clinch a playoff spot as early as Tuesday when it faces the Portland Fire at College Park Center.
The Fire lost to the Toronto Tempo on Friday, which means a victory over the Fire on Tuesday will secure a postseason berth for the Wings. The Wings will first play the Seattle Storm on Sunday at College Park Center. However, the outcome of that game will not impact the Wings' ability to clinch a playoff spot on Tuesday.
