Social media ran rampant with a wild theory earlier this week about why Washington Commanders running back Rachaad White had been missing practice. A video was posted to social media showing several Commanders players doing the ALS ice bucket challenge. Near the end of the video, White jumped up and slipped on the wet ground, prompting some to believe he’d actually injured himself during the video.
However, The Athletic’s Nicki Jhabvala recently revealed that White didn’t injure himself during the video, and that his injury isn’t as serious as some have speculated. He spent the first four seasons of his career with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, totaling 2,656 yards rushing with 14 touchdowns while adding 205 catches for 1,450 yards, and 11 more scores. White’s best season came back in 2023 when he rushed for 990 yards and six touchdowns as Tampa’s lead back.
He’s expected to compete for playing time with 2025 starter Jacory Croskey-Merritt,, who rushed for 805 yards and eight touchdowns as a rookie last year, 2026 rookie Kaytron Allen, who is coming off back-to-back 1,000-yard seasons at Penn State, and journeyman Jeremy McNichols.
