The Pittsburgh Steelers opened up their preseason schedule with a 28-9 victory over the Green Bay Packers. The Steelers played three quarterbacks in their preseason opener: Mason Rudolph, Will Howard and Drew Allar. Rudolph, the Steelers' veteran backup, completed 10 of his 11 pass attempts for 93 yards.
Howard completed seven of his nine attempts for 86 yards. Allar had the best showing, completing 10 of his 13 pass attempts for 153 yards and two touchdowns. On Wednesday, head coach Mike McCarthy said Howard will get the start in Friday night's preseason matchup against the New York Jets.
Allar will also play, but neither Rudolph nor starting QB Aaron Rodgers will take the field. The Steelers selected Howard with a sixth-round pick in the 2025 draft, but he didn't appear in any regular-season action in his rookie season. Allar was selected with a third-round pick in this year's draft.
Friday's preseason matchup against the Jets will kickoff at 7 p.m.
