A grandmother from New York who vanished during a trip to Las Vegas has been found dead, relatives said. The body of Alisa Goods, 63, of Brooklyn, was discovered at about 1:45 a.m. Thursday near Terminal 1 at Harry Reid International Airport, sources told KTNV.
The missing woman's daughter confirmed the "devastating" development in an online fundraiser posted later in the day. "It is with profound sadness that we share the heartbreaking news that our beloved mother, Alisa Goods, has been found and has passed away," Goods' daughter, Kristen, wrote online. "For our family, this is a devastating loss.
After the uncertainty and anguish of not knowing where she was, we are now faced with the painful reality of saying goodbye and making arrangements to honor her life and memory." Goods, a grandmother of five, had been visiting a friend in Las Vegas when she disappeared on August 8 after heading to a pharmacy, relatives told KTNV. She was reported missing two days later. Relatives said someone subsequently started sending messages from Goods' phone asking for money days later, including requests for Bitcoin, KTNV reported.
Goods' niece, Alana Calloway, said she was immediately suspicious of the messages. "It's not her," she told the station. "And I just kept feeling like I lost my breath.
It took my breath away, I couldn't breathe." A spokesperson for Harry Reid International Airport confirmed a body had been discovered near the facility, but did not have additional details, referring Newsweek to Las Vegas police. Multiple messages seeking additional details from police and the Clark County Coroner's Office were not immediately returned Friday afternoon. Calloway said relatives were stunned by Goods' death.
"Our hearts are broken," Calloway told WABC in a statement. "We were notified that my aunt was found — unfortunately, not the way we wanted her to be. This is an unimaginable time.
