The star of one of the best teams at this year's World Cup is considering taking his talents from that football to American football. Harry Kane, the captain of the England squad that ended up in third place, has a plan to come back to the Americas for the final portion of his athletic career. Kane, 33, said he's interested in pursuing a spot as an NFL kicker, reports Jack Pitt-Brooke of The Athletic.
He's been a fan of American football for years now, and he's long pondered ways to continue playing competitive sports when his soccer days are over. In the past, he's indicated that might be with golf, but now, it seems he's focused on the gridiron. The NFL is a lot more realistic than the golf one, let’s put it that way.” Kane has also said that perhaps his soccer career could even continue simultaneously with that NFL career, though it would be in a lower-tier league.
It might be difficult for Kane to balance playing two sports at once, but the kicker position doesn't require nearly as much team practice as other positions do. Furthermore, we've seen NFL players compete in two sports simultaneously, though it's often baseball that's the other sport. Famously, Deion Sanders tried to play NFL and MLB games on the same day, and he scored a touchdown and hit a home run in the same week.
If Harry Kane tries to pull off his own dual-sport career, he might make some history just like Sanders did. He'll just have to make sure to keep his right leg healthy.
