Washington Commanders veteran wide receiver Stefon Diggs cost his team 15 yards after scoring a touchdown in the fourth quarter of Sunday's Week 1 matchup against the Philadelphia Eagles. After catching a touchdowns pass from quarterback Jayden Daniels, Diggs ran through the back of the end zone and jumped onto the goal post. This celebration resulted in an unsportsmanlike penalty call that pushed the Commanders outside of comfortable two-point conversion range.

Washington head coach Dan Quinn said the team would have gone for two had the penalty not occurred. Instead, they kicked an extra point to cut the Eagles' lead to 17-16. Philadelphia went on to win with a 24-22 final score.

"As soon as I wrapped my arms around it, I was like, 'Oh, I forgot,'" Diggs said when speaking to reporters in the locker room postgame. "Back in the day — I've been playing for a long time — you used to be able to do that. I've got to be better." Diggs finished his Commanders debut with four catches for 55 yards and a touchdown.

Washington will look to get back on track in a Week 2 matchup against the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday.
