They and the UT coaching staff got quite the scare on Monday night when start left tackle Trevor Goosby, who’s projected to be a top-10 pick in the 2027 NFL draft, exited practice early after suffering an apparent knee injury. MRI results showed Goosby had a bone bruise but no timetable was given for his expected return. However, thanks to Anwar Richardson of OrangeBloods.com, fans now know Goosby won’t miss too much time.
He would likely miss the Longhorns’ season opener against Texas State on Sept. 5 (UT should have no issue beating the Bobcats without him) but return just in time for the highly anticipated showdown with the No. 1-ranked Buckeyes the following week. Texas could move starting right tackle Brandon Baker to the left side to fill Goosby’s spot against Texas State and have either Jaydon Chatman or Jordan Coleman, who have played a combined 53 snaps at left tackle, fill in at right tackle. Goosby is considered by most scouts and analysts as the top offensive tackle prospect in the 2027 NFL draft.
The first-team All-SEC lineman allowed just 16 pressures, 10 hurries, three QB hits, and three sacks while playing 847 snaps at left tackle, according to Pro Football Focus.
