Bears QB Ruled 'Week to Week' With Hamstring Injury

Ben Johnson says one of the Bears quarterbacks is week to week with a hamstring injury, a concerning sign ahead of Week 1.

The Chicago Bears are coming off a breakout 2025 season under head coach Ben Johnson, one that saw Caleb Williams evolve into one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL. Expectations are higher now in Chicago, and Williams will once again be the player responsible for taking this team to the next level. But if Williams were to miss time, the man who'd need to step in is Tyson Bagent.

Bagent, now entering his fourth season in Chicago, has seen limited action since the Bears made Williams the face of the franchise two years ago. But when he has seen the field, he's flashed enough to remain the No. 2 quarterback on the depth chart, ahead of 38-year-old veteran Case Keenum and undrafted rookie free agent Miller Moss, who was Williams' teammate at USC. Unfortunately, it looks like Bagent could miss some time — and potentially the start of the regular season.

Johnson confirmed Thursday that Bagent is considered "week to week" with a hamstring injury and won't travel with the team for Saturday's preseason matchup against the Cincinnati Bengals. Even in the preseason, Saturday would have been a good opportunity for Bagent to log more live reps before the regular season kicks off.

He played in the Bears' preseason opener against Cleveland and looked good, completing 13 of 22 passes for a game-high 169 yards, one touchdown, and one interception. Keenum, for his part, went 9 of 10 for 151 yards and two touchdowns in that same game. The Bears open the regular season in Week 1 against the Carolina Panthers on Sunday, Sept. 13 — just over three weeks away.
